No shit the animal industry might suffer if these laws are strengthened. That's the whole point; if an industry is so badly affected by laws that make it wrong to torture an animal, the industry deserves to perish.

The British anti-vivisection group SPEAK has announced that they are to run for office within the same political system being used against them to silence their campaign against Oxford University:

As more draconian laws are being brought to bear in many western countries, limiting or eliminating the rights of people to stand up for their beliefs, the points raised by the article become even more relevant. It's worth keeping an eye on their progress.
